The Wheat Route
La Beauce was once a vast lake. As the water receded, the soil underneath was discovered to be very fertile – perfect for agriculture in a variety of cultures. Today La Beauce varies its agricultural production; however, wheat remains the principal crop. Travelling throughout this region, the “wheat route”, you will discover multiple facets of a rich earth. Its infinite horizons are dotted with windmills, charming villages and elegant farms. Don’t miss a visit to the biggest and most ancient mill at Ouarville.
La Beauce opens its arms to the visitor taking time to discover its secret charms – wild flora & fauna, stunning sites, astonishing valleys (in particular the Conie and the Aigre), caves (the Foulon caves at Châteaudun), etc.
A Region rich in Patrimony
Whatever site you choose to visit, whether it is Chartres and its cathedral and famous stained glass, or Châteaudun and its old city and medieval castle, you will discover the campsite Bois Fleuri lying in the heart of a region of tradition; one that that History has bequeathed majestic monuments and charming traditional villages. Depending on the length of stay, there are other sites and towns worth visiting: Nottonville, the chateau of Villepion, the small town of Bonneval (the “Venice of La Beauce”), Nogent-le-Roi (a picturesque village set on the Eure), the Villebon chateau, the aqueduct of Maitenon and the Royal Abbey of Dreux.
